Culturally Competent Therapy

A one day workshop on therapy and intervention with a focus on reflection and practical skills for working across cultures. Lunch will be provided.

Aims of the day are to:

Understand why cultural competence and humility are important in mental health services in our culturally diverse society
Drawing on frameworks for working across cultures
Encourage self-reflection
Feel more confident in working across cultures.
 
The training will include a significant component of group exercises throughout the session as well as some time given to didactic teaching. Thus the different learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, verbal, logical and social) will be catered for and participants will receive practical handouts containing relevant information from the session to take away with them.

This workshop is suitable for all mental health professionals who work with culturally diverse populations including psychiatrists, counsellors, psychologists, social workers, mental health practitioners, psychotherapists, family therapists and other health and social care professionals. Students and trainees are also very welcome.
